Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of projects does New Era Development Group LLC handle in Brooklyn?
We handle a wide range of residential and commercial construction work across Brooklyn and the greater NYC area kitchen and bathroom remodels, basement renovations, home additions, full gut renovations, new construction, deck and porch work, and commercial spaces like restaurants and retail environments. Whether you’re renovating a Park Slope brownstone, finishing a basement in Bay Ridge, or building out a commercial space in Sunset Park, we’ve done it. We also serve clients throughout the five boroughs and New Jersey.
Yes. We hold a Superintendent of Construction license through the NYC Department of Buildings, plus five additional licenses well beyond the minimum required to operate in New York. We’re registered with NYC DOB as a General Contractor and hold a Home Improvement Contractor license through NYC DCWP. You can verify our credentials independently through the NYC DOB and DCWP databases. We carry our license numbers on all project documentation, which is exactly what you should expect from any contractor you hire.
MWBE stands for Minority and Women’s Business Enterprise. Our certification License # MWCERT2018-175 is issued by New York State Empire State Development and requires independent verification of ownership and operations. It’s not self-reported; it’s government-issued and renewed. For clients working on government or institutional projects with diversity participation requirements, hiring an MWBE-certified contractor like us satisfies those obligations directly. For private clients, it signals that we’re a verified, accountable business not a shell operation or a name on a truck with no paper trail behind it.
Most likely, yes and the scope determines which type. In New York City, permits are required for structural work, plumbing changes, electrical upgrades, and mechanical systems. Strictly cosmetic work painting, flooring, cabinet replacement without moving plumbing is typically exempt. But the line isn’t always obvious, and getting it wrong can mean a stop-work order, fines, or problems when you try to sell. We handle the permit filing process through NYC’s DOB NOW portal under our own license. You don’t navigate the DOB system we do.
It depends heavily on scope, but here’s an honest picture: permit approval alone can take one to three months for complex projects. A kitchen remodel typically runs six to twelve weeks of active construction once permits are in hand. A full gut renovation of a Brooklyn brownstone or multi-room apartment can run several months. What stretches timelines more than anything is poor planning upfront incomplete scopes, late material decisions, or permit surprises. We build realistic schedules before work starts and communicate throughout so you’re never guessing where things stand.
Yes, and we have direct experience doing it. Brooklyn has thousands of co-op buildings, and renovating inside one involves more steps than a standard home renovation. Your board will typically require an alteration agreement, proof of our insurance naming the building as an additional insured, and compliance with building-specific work hour rules. As of January 2026, NYC DOB also requires co-op and condo boards to provide attestation in DOB NOW before any permit filing can proceed. We’re familiar with that process and can walk you through what your building will need before we ever break ground.
